VCCT is on the CPCA’s approved institution list

Friday, October 26th, 2018

What does this mean?

Well, it means that VCCT graduates do not have to prove that their education meets the CPCA criteria when applying to the association.  We have already done that for you.  CPCA has thoroughly reviewed the curriculum for our diploma program and determined that it includes all the core competencies and sufficient skills practice hours required to meet their academic criteria.

You will, however, still need to fulfill all other requirements including submitting reference letters, criminal record report and proof of liability insurance, etc.

CPCA and ACCT are both FactBC member associations and we encourage all students/graduates to research both associations before making a decision to pursue a professional designation.

Please be reminded that CPCA will be visiting VCCT on Wednesday, November 14th at 12PM.  Please be sure to join us on campus or online for the presentation.

Have a great day everyone!

New ACCT Direct-Client Hours Requirement

Friday, October 26th, 2018

In June, ACCT (www.acctcounsellor.com) made an announcement that the association will be making changes to its membership requirements. As of July 1st, 2018, ACCT requires all new members to have acquired at least 100 hours of direct-client hours in addition to their instructional hours. These hours must be completed through paid or non-paid work within an agency or through private practice under supervision of a qualified counselling supervisor. Students who have difficulty acquiring the direct-client hours as defined by ACCT, or simply choose not to join ACCT, will have the option to register with the CPCA (www.cpca-rpc.ca) instead. CPCA continues to recognize and accept practical hours completed within a recognized counselling program. CPCA members must successfully complete a comprehensive exam and receive a minimum of 70% to join the association.

For more information, please contact the associations directly or contact Alice or Rob at VCCT.
